GPS Coordinates Latitude: 52.993788Longitude: -6.076941 Directions Tinakilly is located north of County Wicklow outside the village of Rathnew. To get to Rathnew Village take the main N11/M11, the main Dublin/Wexford road. You will find Tinakilly House Hotel about 0.5km outside the village on the R750 road for Wicklow Town.Tí na Coille - House of the Wood - a Victorian mansion steeped in history, Tinakilly was built by the British government in 1883 for Captain Robert Halpin, commander of "The Great Eastern" and mariner supreme who laid 2,600 miles of telegraphic cable in 1866, joining Europe to America.
Built for Captain Halpin, Commander of the Great Eastern, which laid the transatlantic telegraphic cables, Tinakilly is now a luxury hotel and restaurant. Elegant antique furnishings augment the classical Victorian-Italianate architecture. Or, for sheer indulgence, enjoy the sumptuous Admiral's State Room. Tinakilly prides itself on their attention to detail and look forward to providing a comfortable environment for your stay. RestaurantWhile Tinakilly is a true reflection of the Victorian period, the kitchen prides itself on the fine blend of modern and traditional cuisine. Fresh fish, game and Wicklow lamb are provided locally and Tinakilly's own herb garden supply the kitchen. The menu changes frequently to reflect what is freshly available locally and, in old Irish fashion, all foods including breads, jams, chutneys and preserves are prepared by the kitchen staff. The award-winning wine list features not only the traditional Bordeaux and Burgundies, but also a broad range of exciting new world wines, which give the cellar a truly international flavour and offers the perfect complement to your meal. Gardens The stunning sea views, romantic gardens and surrounding hinterland of Tinakilly capture but a small slice of the magnificence of County Wicklow. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, the county known as "The Garden of Ireland", boasts exquisite and highly acclaimed gardens, such as Mount Usher and Powerscourt. Enjoy a stroll through the 19th century gardens, which have been mapped to include the "Foxes Wood", the "Badger Walk", the rose garden, the herb garden and the croquet lawn. Wedding Venue Meeting Facilities The ambience of the hotel and grounds, the superbly appointed bedrooms and the excellent international reputation of their dining room combines to make Tinakilly a much sought after venue for prestigious business gatherings and corporate entertainment. Fantastic Stay, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 Written by Glenn Pearson - View all my reviews - #1 Reviewer My wife and I decided to take her parents for a special night/weekend out. We found the Tinakilly House Hotel on the site and booked. We arrived at the hotel at about 5pm. The moment we arrived we felt a senses of peace at the place. Tinakilly is very stately, being built with elegance. It is well decorated and in top condition. Some of the painting go back a long time and there are many about. We had a warm welcome, and we shown to our rooms. The rooms were top class, with loads of space and a separate living area. Everything was spick and span. We had wonderful sea views. That evening we had dinner in the hotel. Three of us the Supreme of chicken served with gratin potato, baby vegetables and tarragon jus. My wife had the Pan fried salmon and John Dory, rosti asparagus, chili sauce and crème fraiche. Everyone cleared the plates. The was also a wonderful selection of breads to accompany the meal. We cannot remember the wine we had, but it was very good. After the meal we had nightcaps by the fire. I had a Bushmills 12 year old whiskey on ice and my wife had a Baileys on ice. Her parents do not drink so they had tea. All in all it was a wonderful evening. We retired for the night. The next morning her parents had a fabulous breakfast in bed. We went downstairs to the dining room and had a wonderful breakfast. We then strolled around the grounds and at lunch time we headed away home. We did not want to leave Tinakilly House Hotel, we had to talk ourselves out of staying for an extra night. We were very sad to leave. I highly recommend the Tinakilly House Hotel for people wanting a bit of elegance and peace. Accommodation Review Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend?:
